Quigg attends international conference
DECATUR – Claudia Quigg, founding executive director of Baby TALK, represented the United States at an international gathering of newborn examiners at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
The two-day meeting involved professionals who train others on using the Newborn Behavioral Observation in approximately 30 countries.
The purpose of the meeting was to consider perspectives on newborns from the various countries present and to strategize for improved methods of training professionals. Quigg was one of seven members of the U.S. delegation. The meeting was offered in conjunction with the World Association for Infant Mental Health Congress held in Edinburgh in the days that followed.
The Newborn Behavioral Observation was developed by Dr. T. Berry Brazelton of Harvard Medical School who was able to be present for the event despite his advancing age of 96. The Newborn Behavioral Observation is a method of observing newborns to understand their unique competencies and individual attributes. It is used in Decatur as Baby TALK enjoys Newborn Encounters with families who have delivered their babies at both St. Mary’s and Decatur Memorial hospitals.
Imboden Creek recognized for dedication to quality care
DECATUR – Imboden Creek Living Center and Imboden Creek Gardens have been recognized as 2014 recipients of the Bronze-Commitment to Quality Award for their dedication to improving the lives of residents through quality care.
The award is the first of three distinctions possible through the National Quality Award program, presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living. The program honors centers across the nation that have demonstrated a commitment to improving quality care for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
“I applaud Imboden Creek for their commitment to delivering quality care,” said Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “This award represents the dedication that each Bronze recipient has given to improve quality in the long-term and post-acute care profession.”
“We are thrilled to see Illinois represented in this wonderful program by two of our centers,” said David Voepel, executive director of the Illinois Health Care Association. “We are very proud of the work they have done and can’t wait to see more as they move forward.”
The program has three levels: bronze, silver and gold. Centers begin the quality improvement process at the bronze level, where they develop an organizational profile with essential performance elements such as vision and mission statements and an assessment of customers’ expectations. Bronze applicants also must demonstrate their ability to implement a performance improvement system. Trained examiners review each bronze application to determine if the center has met the demands of the criteria. As a recipient of the Bronze-Commitment to Quality Award, the Imboden Creek centers may now move forward in developing approaches and achieving performance levels that meet the criteria required for the Silver-Achievement in Quality Award.
“The Imboden Creek campus is excited to be taking part in the National Quality Award program and we are so proud to have been awarded the Bronze Award for commitment to quality,” said Rhonda Luther, chief operating officer of Imboden Creek Health Services. “Our staff strives each day to provide quality care and to maintain excellent relationships with our residents, their families and our local community.”
Imboden Creek Gardens and Imboden Creek Living Center were among the 390 centers to receive the Bronze level award. The award will be presented to both facilities during AHCA/NCAL’s 65th annual Convention and Exposition in October in Washington, D.C.
Imboden Creek Health Services is a privately-owned community that offers seniors the opportunity to establish a secure lifestyle. For Imboden Creek residents, their community remains constant, even as their needs change.
