The miles will melt away when you're cruising down the road on a Harley-Davidson Road Glide.
Now powered by the new Twin Cam 96 engine, which is mated to a six-speed gearbox, the power delivery and extra gear will make for endless miles of smooth riding.
The Twin Cam 96 was the biggest new engine program in the history of the legendary American motorcycle manufacturer, with more than 700 new part numbers. In fact, the only areas that didn't change were the cylinders, rocker arms, rocker boxes and some parts in the top of the engine.
Crankshafts, connecting rods, crank cases, transmission cases and all transmission parts are all new. A new fuel injection system offers improved performance and reduced exhaust emissions. New camshafts are lighter and use improved materials for higher durability.
Riders will notice smoother characteristics at most engine speeds when comparing the new Twin Cam 96 to the old 88 cubic inch motor. Less vibration and more performance are achieved, in part, with lighter pistons and lighter, shorter connecting rods.

Aiding in the smoother power delivery is the six-speed Cruise Drive transmission, now standard equipment, along with the Twin Cam 96 motor, in all of Harley's Touring, Softail and Dyna models.
Adding the higher-ratio sixth gear reduces top gear rpm (revolutions per minute) by 11 percent, compared to the old five-speed gearbox. When cruising at 75 miles-per-hour, engine speed is cut by more than 360 rpm, from 3227 rpm to 2859 rpm, making for a very relaxing ride.
The six-speed transmission also features a new transmission case which includes larger internal bearings, larger gears and a torque-carrying capacity increase of 28 percent; helical-cut gear teeth provide a larger contact area and are stronger and quieter. Adding to the comfort level is a reduced clutch lever effort - up to seven percent.
It all adds to unequalled comfort when you're taking the road more traveled.
Of course, with all the upgrades and creature comforts comes Harley's distinct style. And there's no confusing the Road Glide when it's coming your way, thanks to the dual quartz halogen headlights that peek through the fairing.
Also unique to the Road Glide's fairing is that it's frame mounted, thereby reducing weight on the fork and handlebars. It all contributes to more responsive handling.
Inside the fairing is a 40-watt, Harmon/Kardon AM/FM/WB/CD/MP3 Advanced Audio System, so even the longest day on the road passes by quickly to your favorite tunes. Two gloveboxes inside the fairing make for quick and convenient storage. Add in the standard electronic cruise control and the miles will go by effortlessly.
As with any Harley, there are endless numbers of add-ons and accessories to be had, whether performance, function or style.
Amidst all the modern upgrades, Harley-Davidson still retains its link to tradition. Moving forward while drawing on its history is what sets the icon of American motorcycling manufacturers apart from the rest.
