LEXINGTON, Ky. - The fourth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team posted the low round of the tournament in its final action at the Transylvania Fall Invite Sunday, Sept. 6. After concluding their final few holes of the second round, the Titans fired an 18-under 270 to grab third at the 17-team event at University Club of Kentucky. Junior Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) took home medalist honors at nine-under.
Illinois Wesleyan opened the tournament with a two-over 290 before going three strokes lower in round two. The Green and White's final round secured third place and marked the lowest round of the weekend by six strokes.
IWU's strong finish featured the entire lineup shooting par-or-better on the day. Castro closed out a successful weekend nine-under (207), powered by a final-round 67, to secure the third win of his career. Sophomore Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) posted the best round, a six-under 66. He tallied five birdies alongside an eagle on No. 5 to take home third. With their finishes, Castro and Andrews were named to the all-tournament team.

Sophomore Ben Gelven (St. Louis, Mo.-Mary Institute and Country Day School) and freshman Finley Tyrrell (La Grange, Ill.-Lyons Township) also notched top-30 placements. Gelven turned in a career-best 67 to finish one-over for the tournament and tie for 25th. One stroke back, Tyrrell earned a share of 27th in his collegiate debut. Tyrrell, who finished two-over par over 54 holes, registered a two-under 70 final round.
The Green and White's strong finish saw them finish six strokes off the lead as No. 11 Mary Hardin-Baylor took the team title at 841. No. 15 Trinity (Texas) was runner-up with an 845.
Illinois Wesleyan looks ahead to the Wrigglesworth Invitational Sunday-Monday, Sept. 13-14, hosted by University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The two-day event will be contested at Eau Claire Country Club. Live scoring will be accessible through links found on the men's golf page of iwusports.com.
