Davis scores twice in men’s soccer 2-0 CCIW opener win

Kenosha, WI – Senior Bryce Davis continued his stellar senior campaign with two goals in the Big Blue's 2-0 victory over Carthage College Saturday evening at Art Keller Field. The win marks Millikin's fourth straight win and extended their unbeaten streak to six games, improving the Big Blue to 5-3-1 (1-0), while Carthage falls to 2-5-1 (0-2).

Eleven shots were taken between the two squads throughout the first half, but neither side was able to find the back of the net. Joshua Garrett received the start in net for the Big Blue, notching two saves throughout the first half. Luke Butler and Kyle Grasse both fired shots at the net but were unable to get it past Carthage's goalkeeper.

Following halftime, the Big Blue would not waste any time scoring the first goal of the game with Davis' first goal of the game, assisted by fellow senior Olav Kaldahl in the 49th minute. Davis' second goal of the day came from an assist by freshman Aquiles Yibirin at 68:30 to put the Big Blue up by two. Millikin held off the Firebirds attack through the rest of the half to walk away with a victory in game one of CCIW play.

"There are no easy games in the CCIW so credit to the team for breaking down a disciplined Carthage unit," said Head Coach Charlie Ward. "We won defensively with Aidan (Welch) and (Nico) Mosca clearing off the line, while we took our chances on offense with our forwards led by Bryce (Davis) who continues to show why he's a top player in the CCIW."

Men's soccer continues their three-game road trip to start CCIW play with a contest at Wheaton College (Ill.) on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on the CCIW Network.
