GARY, Ind. — Indiana University Northwest men's soccer forward Cesar Lopez has been named the Regional Health Systems RedHawk Athlete of the Week for Week 3 after scoring in both of the RedHawks' matches during the Sept. 28-Oct. 3 competition window.
Lopez provided an offensive spark throughout the week, finding the back of the net against Viterbo University on Sept. 30 before delivering another goal in IUN's 2-1 victory at Grace Christian University on Oct. 3.
Against Viterbo, Lopez gave the RedHawks an early second-half lead when he scored in the 64th minute off an assist from Chase Beals. The goal put IUN ahead 1-0 before Viterbo rallied for a 2-1 victory.
Lopez followed with another strong performance at Grace Christian, helping the RedHawks earn the win. He opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a penalty-kick goal, giving IUN a 1-0 advantage.
The forward consistently created opportunities throughout the match, finishing with a team-high seven shots and four shots on goal while playing 70 minutes. His offensive pressure helped IUN finish with a 22-8 advantage in shots over Grace Christian.
Lopez's two goals during the week brought his season total to five and continued his role as one of the RedHawks' leading offensive contributors. Through the Sept. 28-Oct. 3 stretch, he combined consistent shot production with timely scoring to help IUN remain competitive in conference play.
Lopez and the RedHawks continue their 2026 campaign with a home matchup against No. 12 Olivet Nazarene University on Oct. 10 at East Chicago Central Soccer Field.
