NORMAL, Ill. (October 23, 2026) – A pickup truck left the roadway and crashed through the east wall of a Carle medical office building at College Avenue and Towanda Avenue Friday morning, causing significant damage to the building. No injuries were reported.
The Normal Fire Department responded at 10:11 a.m. to a report of a vehicle crashing into the building at 1437 E. College Ave. A fire alarm at the same location was dispatched simultaneously.
First-arriving firefighters found the pickup truck had crashed through the building’s east wall and come to rest entirely inside the facility. Firefighters searched the damaged area to ensure no one was trapped in the affected rooms or beneath the vehicle. No one was found. The building was evacuated, and Carle staff accounted for all employees and patients.
Normal Fire Department paramedics evaluated the driver, who reported no injuries and declined transport to a hospital. The fire alarm was determined to have been activated by drywall dust and debris from the collision. No fire was reported.
Town of Normal building officials and Carle facilities maintenance personnel responded to assess the damage and evaluate the building’s structural integrity. Due to the damage, the building is not approved for public occupancy until repairs are completed and officials determine that life safety systems and structural integrity have been restored.
Carle was contacting patients with appointments scheduled at the facility to arrange rescheduling at an alternate location.
Joe’s Towing and Recovery removed the vehicle from the building. The scene was turned over to Carle facilities management at approximately 11:30 a.m.
