GREENWOOD, Ind. – Illinois Wesleyan University Sports Information Emeritus Stew Salowitz earned top honors in District 5 of the College Sports Communicators Fred Stabley Jr. Writing Contest, as district awards were announced by the organization Tuesday, May 12.
Salowitz was the winner of the historical feature for college division for his piece titled "30 Years of Shirk." The article celebrated the 30th anniversary of Shirk Center, which highlighted numerous alums that found great success inside the friendly confines.
A 2020 CSC Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Salowitz had a decorated career spanning 30 years covering his alma mater. After graduating from IWU in 1976, Salowitz became the second SID in school history, following in the footsteps of CSC Hall of Famer Ed Alsene. Salowitz served as the sports information director from November 1988 until his retirement in August 2019.
