Unit 5 is piloting a clear bag policy at varsity football games this season as part of ongoing efforts to provide a safe and welcoming environment for fans.
Clear bag policies are widely used by other school districts in our conference and at many venues throughout our community. They make it easier for staff to quickly see what is being brought into the stadium while helping keep the entry process moving.
Approved bags for entry
Bags must fall under one of the following three categories for game entry:
- Clear bag no larger than 12 x 6 x 12
- Small clutch purse no larger than 4.5 x 6.5
- One gallon (or smaller) plastic resealable storage bag
Any other bags, including but not limited to fanny packs, camera bags, crossbody purses, duffle bags, and backpacks, will not be permitted at home games for Normal Community or Normal West high schools.

Prohibited items
Additionally, several items are prohibited altogether from home games:
- Laser pointers
- Air horns
- Whistles
- Outside food or drink
- Water bottles
- Sports balls
- Weapons (including concealed carry)
- Animals (except service animals)
Any items deemed dangerous or inappropriate will also not be allowed into games. Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited, as well.
Student and spectator guidelines
Junior high and high school students are expected to show IDs to enter all games, and elementary and junior high students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entire game. There will be no re-entry for those who leave a game, and entry will not cease once half-time ends.
We ask that spectators depart the grounds within 15 minutes of a game's end.
The clear bag policy and all other game-day guidelines apply to all Unit 5 varsity football home games, including games played at another location when Unit 5 is the host team.
As we pilot this additional safety measure, please remember the clear bag policy applies to fans of all ages. We appreciate everyone working with us and look forward to a great season of football.
